Learning Centered Around You

Group classes can be impractical for numerous reasons. Individual instruction affords the same level of training you receive in a class, only with greater scheduling flexibility and dedicated attention. Whether embarking on your creative journey or advancing your present abilities, personal coaching is a wonderful way to learn photography and explore paths specific to your interests.

Personal instruction is ideal for continuing your education beyond the Beginner Series. Customized lessons are also excellent for a refresher or covering the basics of your camera in anticipation of a big trip or special occasion. Learn to capture the images you’ve always wanted at a pace and plan tailored to you.

Personal instruction can occur at either our location or yours, whether in your home or “in the field.” Although unlikely, there may be a travel fee depending on how far the location is beyond the I-270 outer belt. Please call (614) 427-1671 for special requests or questions.

What's Possible

“Learning photography” is a broad brushstroke and covers a lot of canvas. What do you actually learn? Everyone is on a unique path, and personal instruction allows you to focus on areas specific to your interests and skill level, learning what you want or need.

CamSlam

Short on time or patience? Get up and running fast with your camera by learning the basics of taking a picture using Manual and Aperture Priority. This level of instruction is similar to what you would expect in a “crash course.” Includes a step-by-step PDF with practice exercises.

Take a Class

An allocated 6-hour block provides enough time to cover Beginner ONE or TWO. Although this time does not include a private outing, you’re welcome to join the outing of an upcoming class. Ideal for Ohio State’s Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP)

Photo Editing

Editing is best-learned one-on-one. Beginning on your skill level, learn how to “finish a picture” using simple adjustments available on nearly any photo app, such as Apple Photos or Adobe Lightroom.

Smartphone Photography

The best camera is the one in your hand—from portraits and action shots to landscape and travel photography, learn to take more impressive photos of the people and places in your life.

Mentoring

Common Q's

How long are sessions?

All personal instruction requires a base session of 2.5 hours; you may add more time in 0.5 hour increments. A base session provides enough time and attention to convey the information without overwhelming you.

What about cancellations?

Shutterbug: Although quite rare, cancellations can occur. Sessions canceled due to inclement weather or personal reasons will receive a make-up session. You may receive a refund if we cannot find a suitable replacement date.

You: Life happens. Shutterbug will make every reasonable effort to reschedule if you cannot attend your session. Please note: reschedules are complementary and should only occur if necessary. Repeated cancellations or a prolonged time in rescheduling do not qualify for a refund.

Where are you located?

Sessions are held at Haven Collective, 2025 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Parking is a breeze.

Is there an age limit?

All ages are welcome to attend. However, the majority of our students are adults. Although we have had students as young as 12 years old participate without issue, it all comes down to your child's ability to follow along.

Please note: all minors must be accompanied by an adult.
