DSLRs and mirrorless cameras share standard features and functionality you must know to get the most out of your photography. MATE examines the inside and outside of your camera, introducing you to essential components and menu settings that every beginner should know. Moreover, you’ll learn about choosing the right photo editor and practical camera accessories that will make a difference in your photography.

Session 1

There is a lot more to photography than pressing the shutter button. Modern digital cameras are complicated, especially for anyone who isn’t tech-savvy. CAMERA is the user-friendly beginner’s guide you hoped came in the box. You are guided step-by-step through key camera components and menu settings you didn’t know you should care about, ensuring a solid knowledge base for pursuing photography. This session gives you a concise yet comprehensive overview of the important features and functionality anyone new to using a camera needs to understand.

There’s no shortage of gadgets and software that are supposed to raise your photography game. Fortunately, only a few camera accessories and apps are necessary to produce real results in your imagery. ACCYS cuts through the hoopla and introduces you to the essential additions for your camera that will actually be of benefit. Designed to shorten the learning curve and save money, this session is your Cliff Notes of understanding the plethora of options available so you can make more informed buying decisions and enjoy your time with a camera.

This class is an introduction to DSLR and mirrorless cameras and focuses more on learning basic features, menu settings, and important camera accessories.

Please note that you can comfortably take MATE and Beginner ONE during the same month without issue. 

Any camera that allows you to adjust the exposure manually is fitting for Beginner Photography BASICS, which includes DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Call or text (614) 427-1671 if you are unsure whether your camera is suitable.

Learning photography and complicated cameras can be challenging; I am available to you before, after, and between sessions if you need help. You may also retake the class, whether part or whole, anytime at no cost.

Life happens. If you cannot make both sessions, you can jump in on another class to make up the material. Classes are monthly; make it up anytime.

All ages are welcome to attend, but the majority of our students are adults. Although we have had students as young as 12 years old participate without issue, it all comes down to your child's ability to follow along.

 

Note: Minors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Classes are held at Haven Collective, 2025 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43221. There's plenty of free, close, and well-lit parking. Personal sessions can take place anywhere.

Although rare, class cancellations can occur. You may switch to another class or receive a full refund. Single-session cancellations for inclement weather or personal reasons will receive a make-up session.
